The group’s name, TXT, is an acronym standing for "Tomorrow X Together".[1] In Korean, the group name is "투모로우바이투게더 (RR: Tumoroubaitugedeo)",[2] or the words "tomorrow by together" transliterated into Hangul. The band's complete English name is said like its Korean version.[3] According to Big Hit Entertainment, the name represents the idea that the members "all come together under one dream in hopes of building a new tomorrow."[4] The name also centers around the idea of each member being different but coming together to form synergy and dream of a better future.[5]

History 2017–present: Reveal and debut with The Dream Chapter: Star

Plans for a second boy group from Big Hit Entertainment were announced by founder Bang Si-hyuk as early as 2017.[6] The company officially revealed plans to debut a second boy band in November 2018, with the date set to be early 2019.[7] Shortly after, the number of members, five,[8] as well as an expected March 2019 debut were announced,[9] though the latter was denied by the agency.[10] Following a social media post released by Big Hit, as well as a teaser posted to the group's website, TXT was officially revealed on January 10, 2019.[11][12] Over the next ten days, YouTube videos depicting each member, dubbed "introduction films", were released.[13] Three days later, the films were followed by a teaser featuring the finalized lineup: Yeonjun, Soobin, Beomgyu, Hueningkai, and Taehyun.[14] A second round of individual member teasers called "questioning films" were released during the last week of January.[15]

On February 7, 2019, their official debut date, March 4, was confirmed by Big Hit Entertainment. A debut broadcast for the group to be aired on the Mnet television channel, as well as the title of the group's debut EP, The Dream Chapter: Star, were also announced.[16] A debut showcase, held at the Yes24 Live Hall on March 5, will follow the release of the EP.[17]
